Position: Head Coach
New head coach Marcus Wattley takes over the helm at McKinley after a year as the defensive ends coach at the University of Akron.
Prior to joining the Zips staff, he served as the head football coach and defensive coordinator at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron for two seasons. The Fighting Irish reached the state playoffs twice during Wattley’s tenure as head coach, including a trip to the Division III state semifinals. Wattley served as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator for nine years with the Irish before becoming the head coach. He stands 17-9 overall in two seasons.
Wattley, who played defensive back for Akron under Lee Owens, earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice technology in 2006 and a bachelor’s degree in political science and criminal justice from UA in 2012. He now serves as the atheltic academic liason at McKinley High School.
A native of Copley, Ohio, Wattley graduated from Copley High School where he played for coach Dan Boarman. Wattley joined the coaching ranks in 2004 at Copley-Fairlawn High School where he was the freshman defensive coordinator and varsity linebackers coach.
Wattley joined Boarman’s staff at St. Vincent-St. Mary in 2006 as the JV head coach and defensive coordinator while serving as the varsity linebackers and special teams coach. He was promoted to assistant head coach and defensive coordinator in 2011. Wattley worked with Boarman for nine seasons before earning the head coaching position in December 2016.
Wattley, 37, resides in Uniontown with his wife Katie, daughter Myla (5), and son Marcus, Jr. (2).

Position: Offensive Coordinator / Quaterbacks
Badre Bardawil returns to the McKinley staff in his 20th year of coaching. He is a proud Mason Elementary alumni and Canton City resident for 37 years. After starting out as a freshmen assistant and junior high head coach from 1998-2005 in Plain Local, Badre became offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach at Lexington High School from 2006-2009. Next, Badre was the head coach at Claymont High School for two years before serving as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Massillon from 2012-2014. Badre served as head coach at his alma mater, St. Thomas Aquinas, from 2015-2017. Badre earned a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University. Badre works at McKinley as a school resource assistant, and he and his wife, Megan, live in Plain Local where they raise their two children, Maya (3) and Rocco (1).
Position: Running Backs
Coach Wattley brings experience to the Bulldogs, having previously coached at Kenmore High School and St Vincent-St Mary, serving as running backs coach at both stops. The Fort Wayne native currently resides in Copley, where he works as a shipping manager. Robert has one daughter, Jaelynn (14).
Position: Defensive Line
Coach Brodie is in his first year at McKinley. A graduate of Ellet High School in Akron, Cade is currently pursuing a degree in middle childhood education at the University of Akron. He will be assisting with the definsive line. Previously, Cade has coached at Hyre Middle School in Akron.
Coach Saipaia returns to McKinley coaching on the varsity staff. The former professional football player played collegiately for Colorado State. From 2000 - 2007, Blaine played in the NFL for the Oakland Raiders, St. Louis Rams, and Detroit Lions. Before coming to McKinley, Coach Saipaia served as an assistant coach at Poudre High School in Colorado.
Blaine currently serves as a school resource assistant at McKinley High School.
Position: Wide Receivers
McKinley alum Zach Sweat returns home as an assistant on staff this year, assisting with the wide receivers. A 2016 graduate of Akron, Zach earned a degres in sports management. He currenty lives in Canton with his wife, Sapri Porter. Coach Sweat serves as a schools resource assistant in Canton City Schools.
Position: Defensive Line
Coach Grice is in his first year on staff assisting with the defensive line. He's an Akron native, having graduated from Firestone High School. From there, he moved on to Akron, where he graduated in 2017 with bachelors degree in organizational supervison. Cody currently serves as a school resource assistant in Canton City Schools.
Matt Leisure, a 1998 McKinley graduate, continues to bring a wealth of experience in and out of Stark County. From 2002 to 2004, he coached at Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH. Following that, he joined the staff at Massillon, tutoring the offensive line of the Tigers from 2005 - 2014. In 2015, he coached at Jerome High School in Dublin, OH.
Matt now resides in Canton, with daughter Margo. He is employed by Canton City Schools as an intervention specialist.
Position: Wide Receivers / Special Teams
Coach Hedrick returns for his 6th season as McKinley as defensive backs coach and 9th season over all. Mike served as the head freshman coach from 2004 – 2007. He then was an assistant running backs, wide receivers and defensive backs coach at Canton South from 2008-2013. He also serves as the head track coach for the Bulldogs.
Mike played for McKinley, and was a 3-year letterman in football and track. His football accomplishments include winning the Don Scott Award in 1988 and all-county honors in 1988. He was also all-Ohio in track in 1989.
Coach Hedrick, a Canton Township resident, graduated from Kent State with a degree in business administration. He teaches business at McKinley High School and has three children: Taylor, 22; Elijah, 13; and Amiyah, 7. Mike and his wife, Ashley, live in Canton.
Position: Offensive / Defensive Lines
Chris Davis returns to McKinley this year coaching the lines. He is a graduate of Canton McKinley, and went on to Malone University, earning a bachelor of arts in history education in 2014.
Before coming to McKinley, Coach Davis served as a graduate assistant at Malone.
Chris is a history teacher at McKinley High School. He and wife Morgan live in Canton with their one-year-old son Declan
Coach Martter is back for his fourth year at McKinley this season. Before coming to McKinley, Phil coached linebackers at Rittman High School from 2014 to 2015.
Phil is a graduate of Woodridge High School, in Penninsula, Ohio. He attended the University of Akron, earning a bachelor's of science degree in physical education. He also is the head wrestling coach for the Bulldogs.
Coach Martter teaches physical education at McKinley High School and resides in North Canton.
