McK-Timken District Final

Postby GoPups2006 » Thu Mar 08, 2012 10:12 pm

With all the negative attention that has been brought on the city and district, what a great opportunity to show the BEST of Canton and CCS at this game... the attendance tonight sounded horrible (I'll admit, I wasn't there but couldn't be for good reason) but I'm sure that'll pick up with the big 'Battle of Canton' this weekend. Show up, show your best, and beat the Trojans boys 8)

Timken has no "superstar", but they have a very solid starting five, and a deep bench. Orie, Brunner, and Wright are scrappers in the paint. Lots of rebounds and second-chance point. Wright has been hot lately. Orie and Brunner do get in foul trouble every now and then.

Back-court plays well together. No egos. Ruffin, Hunter, and Walton play well together. Walton has turned it on in the playoffs. When hot, Hunter can hit from anywhere.

Like all of Hairston's teams, expect a good deal of transition ball. Timken defense is their bread-and-butter. Smothering, creating turnovers and scoring.

Achilles heal - free-throws. Bad all year. In a tight game, could be the difference.

Should be a great game. I hope the adults don't ruin it by acting like idiots.

Timken,s depth will really hurt Mckinley. Mckinley has very little depth, to go against relentless pressure put on by Timken will be Mckinley,s undoing. If Mckinley had inside presence on offense, they might have a chance. Mills is not what I thought he would be.

Yea I would like to see Mills pick it up. It seems he hasnt progressed much since his fresh year. He just seems "lazy" at times and seems like hes standing around watching and reacting instead of instinctivley moving around the paint and positioning for boards as he should be. Hopefully he steps it up.

Anyways I can't wait for this game, McK haven't played Timken since my sophomore year of HS and I think its ridiculous that the two schools don't play. So im looking forward to this one, and hopefully the community feels the same and comes out in force. 897 for a McK ball game is completely embarrassing.

McKinley is a better coached team than Timken. Timken still plays run and gun street ball, which I admit can most of the time out run the hayseed league for wins, but I don't feel can play 4 quarters with this McKinley team IF they decide to show up. Don't under estimate Big Mike, this is the type of game where he will dominate underneath and rip the boards and add a good 12 points tonight. Rorie is the key, if he gets into his groove and the ball falls his way where he can add 18 or so along with Williams putting in his normal 20 + we win by 10. Yes, we don't show up we loose. With this "inner city" rivalry, getting stoked for the game is not an issue and could heat up. I expect many trips to the foul line. Unfortunately, the winner of the Canton distrit will have a very tough time playing the Columbus teams. Northland and Walnut are very tough teams.
But the best game in town tonight will be at the FH....undefeated Alliance vs. STSM. Too bad I have to miss it. Should be a sell out.

Win or loose, Coach Noftz has proven that he is a very good coach and the right decision was made. I still believe the "right" football coach will be hired. I have to give those who are making that decision the benefit of the doubt.

Wow thanks Scott! Northland also lost to Gahana 2 yrs ago when Northland was suposed to be unbeatable.
What about Green beating Hoover by almost 20 lol !
I hope the fans act like adults tonight. You'd think alot of neutral fans would want to go.

I wouldn't underestimate how well coached Timken is. There is a reason they have won so many games year in and year out over Hairston's tenure there. They are VERY well coached. It isn't "streetball" it is a very very coordinated full court pressure defense which often turns into a lot of easy fast break points. If McK goes in hanging hat on 22 straight victories against Timken and underestimates their ability and discipline we could find ourselves in trouble. Should be a great game!

Timken does play great defense, and score a lot off of it, but they are not well coached in the overall game. That being said, I think Timken wins tonight because of their depth.
