45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadlinehttp://www.fridaynightohio.com - The application deadline has closed, and McKinley High School Principal Deidre Stokes-Davis released the list of 45 applicants for the Bulldogs’ vacant head football coaching position.
Stokes-Davis said it was possible more names could be added to the list from those who made it in before Friday’s 4 p.m. deadline. Schaum (Head coaching stints in Florida with Riverview, Blake, Lennard High Schools) Tim Seder (Seder is an Ashland University product, who kicked in the NFL for the Cowboys and the Jaguars. He is presently the defensive coordinator at West Mesquite High School in Texas, where he also helps coach girls basketball and teaches. Tim’s brother, Bill Seder, compiled a 106-65 record at Waynedale from 1990-2005.) Mark Solis (who was a successful coach at Twinsburg, was at Lorain High School this past season) Jeff Steinberg (is the head football coach at A.B. Miller High School in Fontana, California, a position he assumed in 2006. During the 2007 season, his Tigers’ offense averaged over 400 yards and 36 points per game. Prior to his arrival at A.B. Miller, he served as the head football coach at Burroughs High School (Ridgecrest, CA) for eight years. Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
wtf - he surrendered to grant at appomattox court house to end the civil war. there are about 4 or 5 guys on the list that are actually qualified - if its not one of those then that is the end of the road. this will be very interesting - but i don't hold much hope. I've watched the dogs of war enjoying their feast, I've seen the western world go down in the east...
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadJamar Martin has been an assistant coach at Central Crossing High School the past two years (3-17). The school didn't have a team in 2009 due to failed levies...don't know if he was on the staff in 2008, but don't think he was.
Dean Brown is the Dean of a school in Washington, DC and is an assistant on their football team. There seems to be a connection between some of the applicants and a non-profit organization based in Canton....Team Issachar, Inc. I'm impressed with the efforts of this organization, might even contibute some funds to them, but that doesn't make them good candidates for coaching McKinley football. http://www.starkteamissachar.org/Meet_the_Team.html
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadThe 4 most qualified candidates are:
Paul Farrah - Has one of the top 5 winning percentages in stark county of all time. 9-1 & 10-0 seasons common place for this guy. Before people start this crap that he from mostly white schools, don't forget where terry forbes and mike Riley came from. Mark Solis - Has turned programs around wherever he has been. Elyria had won 7 games in the previous 3 seasons before him. Solis took them to the playoffs (lost to Mck in 2005 playoffs). Went to Twinsburg and turned them into a winner - making playoffs again. Now at Lorain. Todd Filtz - Took over for Jeff Rotsky at Maple Hts. Rotsky is the man who built Maple Hts.But Filt has not only maintained what has been built , he has unexpectedy taken this team to even greater heights - STATE TITLE. Still in his 30's too. Jeff Steinberg - Has been very succesful as a high school head coach. Which already makes him more qualified than most everybody on the list , except for these other three. I don't mention R.J. because I don't think he even has a chance. Which is a shame because he did alot for the program. The other problem i see, is that it seems as if there is a unwritten rule that the new coach has to be a black guy. Why can't it just be the " best guy" irregardless of the color of the coach's skin.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadi have had enough of this crap.if ron johnson is not rehired i hope they hire someone with no experance and the program will hit rock botton.ron johnson please file the lawsuit and break those maggets
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadWhat about adding Anthony Thornton to the list of qualified applicants. Coach Thornton had a winning record of 24-10 at Columbus Brookhaven High School. 45% of his student/athletics attended college to play football on a grant-in-aid basis. 17% of his football players at Brookhaven attended college on an academic grant-in-aid basis.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadOne of the stipulations of being the next head coach at McKinley according to my sources, you have to have a teaching certificate and previous head coach expierence.
That will eliminate about half before Sunday's 15-voter committee meets to see who remains, but even after the 'deadline', more can apply through a dirty system Stokes-Davis has set up to make sure RonJon fails at all costs. . ![]() Advertise with us, SCaster@CantonMcKinley.com --------------------------------- http://www.cooperdisposal.com
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
Brookhaven was 52-8 in the five seasons prior to Thornton becoming the head coach. They were 5-5 in his last season (2010), and only beat one team with a winning record. So, it seems the program went downhill while he was there. He applied for the Warren Harding job last year. The eight finalist for the job were Devlin Culliver, Tom Bruney, Luke Ethington, Todd Filtz, Dan Reardon, Rick Rios, Jeff Bayuk and Anthony Thornton. Reardon, Filtz, Bayuk and Rios were the four finalist. Reardon, Filtz, and Bayuk turned down offers which left Riss as the default choice. The 2011 season was Rios' one and only as he's been replaced. Thornton resigned from the Brookhaven position in 2010 because he wants to better position himself to be a college coach. The last thing McKinley needs is a coach who's using the program as a springboard for a college career.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadJohn Farrah wont be allowed in the building since the louisville incident, check into that. Pedifile?
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
His name is Paul Farrah and he is not a pedofile you goof. He was accused of having an affair with a coworker not a student.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
Defamation of character? Court of Law? Better check into that. ![]() Advertise with us, SCaster@CantonMcKinley.com --------------------------------- http://www.cooperdisposal.com
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadGet the facts correct before you go public, that's a crime putting stuff on here like that.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadthats not his name so no crime. he wont be interviewed anyway.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadI think he will...some very good coaches hiding for"after the deadline"...she's joining the three AMIGA'S at the hip...unreal.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadthink..hmmmm.no chance.scandals.yup we all joined at the now..THATS REAL..
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
If they hire someone who didn't apply before the deadline, they will open the doors even wider for lawsuits....everyone who applied before the deadline (i.e. all 45 candidates) would have a case worth pursuing.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
Yep. Keep in mind Stokes is part of the problem in all this and even though she's just 1 of about 5 principles at McKinley she seems like the lead person of the 16. The stupidity that comes out of the mouths of those in positions of authority at McKinley just boggles the mind of any sane person. She also needs to go IMO.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadAlways beware of a two-namer,she's not a favorite with the staff I'm in touch with.

Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadMitch Browning....He's been at Minnesota, and the OC at Syracuse I think...Never would have thought I would see that name on the list, always been a college guy. He probably knows about the program though cause I think he may have been at Minnesota around the same time Ben Mcd was.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadI wonder if someone on here isn't Stokes! hmmmmmmm
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadi dont know about that tim.but what i do know is that their are some kin folk of the three woman on the board on that list.you cannot trust this so-called board or stokes
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
yeah i'm sure you would find it funny if somebody wrongly accused you of this. if he doesn't get an interview - and some other less qualified do get one - then we know what a joke this process was. the people hiring better get this right. nothing less then perfection after what they have done will be acceptable. good luck with that. I've watched the dogs of war enjoying their feast, I've seen the western world go down in the east...
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
You?!
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadI wonder if any of the posters in the forum are members of the hiring committee.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadllok mck people ..sloanchile needs you to take the blinders off and remember that before all of this mess happened , ron jon was not a very good coach for the time he was here ... so lets not go backwards and cry and moan about him deserving his football job back , IMO , he should have not even seen last season as the coach and the BOE screwed up by doing him the way that they did ...so ron jon may win some jack from this and that would be closure as far as im concerned ... as far as the list of applicants , i am pleasantly surprised ...there are some good options on that list
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
You are playing right into the BOE's hand, you don't see this? ![]() Advertise with us, SCaster@CantonMcKinley.com --------------------------------- http://www.cooperdisposal.com
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadWho cares Dave? I agree with Sloan, if we get a better coach than RonJon, then we all win.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
Who cares? This is not about getting a better coach, hence, this is where you are paying into the BOE's favor. This is about how a district went about getting rid of a good coach, and if we don't band together and stand firm against what was done wrong to RonJon, it will happen again to the next good coach, and the one after that... Wake up! Who cares? That is so insulting to me. You better care! ![]() Advertise with us, SCaster@CantonMcKinley.com --------------------------------- http://www.cooperdisposal.com
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadDave, I have been a faithful follower of Mckinley since 1958, have put a ton of money into the school, and I can see the good Ronjon has done, but the handwriting is on the wall, in my opinion, and a coach that can unite M ckinley and not divide them, in my opinion is a good thing, and be better on the field, yes, let'e move on.

Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadWere they suppose to get the number of applicants down to 15 today and interviews starting Tuesday?
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
If you've been following McKinley since 1958, you ought to know by now that there is no coach who can unite McKinley. And, the reason that there is no coach who can unite McKinley is because it's not the school that's divided, it's the Canton community that's divided. A new coach isn't going to change that! A new superintendent and BOE (I mean a completely clean slate) won't fix that either, but at least it's a step in the right direction.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
They're going to interview 15 people from that list?
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after dead
My thoughts exactly. You have to dig pretty deep to find 10 worth interviewing.
Re: 45 Apply, Stokes-Davis says....'so far', even after deadJAF/phog your thinking to much like normal people. You have to think like the BOE is or like those who say anybody but Johnson.
