A look back...McKinley Basketball 'McK V H O F'

Thanks to Dave Jingo, he has been working in his spare time in adding more and more photos into the McKinley Virtual Hall of Fame...

McKinley's Basketball teams of years past are now becoming available to view and Dave's hard work should be viewed.

The entire site should be looked at again and again because there is something new to look at every day.

Dave Jingo and I were talking about this on Wednesday night and we are going to research this more. There are a couple of well documented publications that offer two different stories on Canton's high school history. One says students form Central High and North High left those schools to go to the new McKinley in 1918 that opened with an enrollment of 877. When the building was completed in 1921 it had room for 4,000 students. Yet, we see Central high basketball team photos after 1918 and some don't look like junior high students. Recently I was sent a book that covers the history of North Canton Hoover's football team, they have two games played against Canton Central listed in 1924 and in 1930. Canton Cenrtal Catholic was St. John's High School in those years, (Canton Central Catholic history starts in 1941) so did Hoover play a Canton Central junior high team? How long did Canton Central remain open is the question and we have to go looking for the answers downtown one day soon to find out.
