McKinley will target search for basketball coach

Article in the the Canton Repository has Mckinley target search for the next basketball coach:

They got the number one guy they were after,he said he would except the position if it was offered.I'm glad it moved along so well,I was very worried about what she thought of their choices.

That would be him. It seems like he's the guy being targeted at the moment. From what I heard as of last Saturday McKinley has not hired a coach as of yet.

Heard on WHBC today that they did hire a coach but haven't made public exactly who.

So if Joyce said he wanted the job, interviewed for the job and was offered the job, why wouldn't he take it? Perhaps a crap sandwich of an offer concocted by the CCS overlords? Hmmm...

This was Sammy B's version today. Said McKinley did very little to sweeten the initial offer and that Lebron may have helped persuade him to stay at St. V.

I think he was asking for the farm and if he got it he would accept the job and if he didn't he would turn it down. Sorry but basketball coaches don't get the farm offered to them.

He's been on LBJ'S payroll for a couple of years now,can't see leaving that behind.

That may be true, but I would like to know what asking for the farm actually would mean in this case... Especially since he isn't a teacher.

Ifeel we need someone who knows canton mckinley and what it it means to be a bulldog, and there is one name TROY TAYLOR he has been a coach and has talked to the committe its time to get a bulldog to coach our kids i feel he will be the next head coach. All that i know he talked search committe i feel he would be the perfect choice

Heres a guess. The clowns down at the southeast community center want Mike Elliott to be the coach and the lemming superintendent is sticking her nose in stacking the deck again.

An interesting candidate is Micheal Bates (heard he was contacted) from Columbus Africentric high school. He is the son of Leroy Bates, who was the head coach at Toledo Libbey from 1992-2008 and his brother is the head coach at Columbus Walnut Ridge, so he grew up in the game. Last year his team at Africentric went 18-7 and lost in the state-semis to a very strong Cinncinati Taft team in the d-3 state semi's. Although his team is d-3 they play in the tough Columbus city league and play a lot of d-1's and 2's. He is highly regarded in the Columbus area as a leader and a coach. His coaching style is up-tempo and he likes to pressure the ball 94 feet. Don't know if he's being seriously considered but might be a solid choice for the job. Good luck to the commitee and the coach of choice.

Was Michael Bates the coach at Africentric the year they played with ineligible player(s) and won the state title but only have the state title stripped from them?

correct. that coach went to Harvest Prep where another set of rule breaking allegations surfaced. all i have read or heard about Bates is positive. Again, Africentric is a public school that does have strong academic admissions requirements ... the bottom line is Mck should be thinking in terms of a coach who will stop the bleeding of all the kids going to Timken ... you stop that , and right away your basketball team improves in talent level by leaps and bounds ...if they can get that person who also can coach a little, then Mck will have the right person... sloanchile feels that not alot of quality canidates want this job.. that is what is going on
