The Northwest Indians had to work extra for it, but they eventually gave coach Dean Everhart a milestone win with a 10-inning victory at McKinley.
It was Everhart’s 100th victory with the Indians and the 239th of his career.
The accomplishment took place on the same field where Everhart, who won 137 games at McKinley from 1991-2001, captured his 100th game as the Bulldogs’ coach.
“That was definitely kind of special and neat for me, for it to happen on the same field,” Everhart said.
The Indians scored three times in the first but didn’t score again until breaking the 3-3 tie in the 10th. Jordan Bowan’s double led to Everhart sending a runner from second in attempt to score. While the runner was thrown out at the plate, Bowman hustled to third and scored on a McKinley throwing error.
“It was the 10th inning and we were trying to get a run home any way we could,” Everhart said.
Bowman finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Hannah Gordan and Abby Siegenthaler each added an RBI.
Gordan picked up the win by limiting McKinley to just five hits over 10 innings. She fanned six and issued just one walk.
“Hannah did an outstanding job,” Everhart said. “She kept the ball down and there were a lot of balls on the ground which was big with the wind as bad as it was all game.
“The wind was horrendous, but I don’t think it really affected play all the much. The kids on both teams handled it very well and it was a well-played game.”
