Tigers 19-15-20

No Details Available; Story from Indeonline.com follows...

The Massillon Tigers were unable to close their regular season with a win, as the McKinley Bulldogs took out their rivals in three sets Monday.

“I can’t take anything away from McKinley because their record isn’t indicative of how good a team they are,” Massillon coach Lindsay Moretta said. “We just had trouble finishing at the net tonight, which has been an issue for us all season.”

The Tigers, who are now 2-19, got three blocks and seven digs from Sam Barboza, while Taylor Young added 12 assists. Taymana Thomas led the Tigers with seven kills and Amari Pierce finished with 15 points and two aces.

McKinley, which is 4-12, was paced by McKenzie Horner’s 32 assists and Brettanie Crider’s 23 kills. Victoria Nissley added 14 digs and Morgan Heanton finished with eight points and three aces.

Game 20;

McKinley vs Northwest;

Northwest 25-25-25,

McKinley 18-22-17

Top servers—Thompson (NW) 11 points, 2 aces; McElroy (M) 7 points, 1 ace. Kill leaders—Channel (NW) 13, Crider (M) 9. Assist leaders—Eisenmann (NW) 21, Horner (M) 8. Top defensive players—H.Gordon (NW) 10 digs, Nissley (M) 6 digs, Evans (M) 5 blocks.

For the second time in their volleyball coaching careers, husband and wife were forced to face off against each other.

For the second time, Northwest head coach John Rafailedes came out with the win over McKinley head coach Patricia Rafailedes. The Indians swept the Bulldogs in three games — 25-18, 25-22, 25-17 — Tuesday night.

The pair originally faced off while Patricia Rafailedes was at Massillon. This year’s match ended a week’s worth of verbal sparring.

“She started it last week,” John Rafailedes said. “We were there with my son and she said that the weakest part of her schedule is coming up. My son rolled his eyes.

“Tonight, every time they hit a ball out of bounds, I yelled over ‘That’s living right.’ She got mad. She thinks I was trying to show her up or something.”

Patricia believed John had an unfair advantage.

“He scouted me four times,” she said. “I only scouted him once. I’m going to scout him more than once time next time.”

John was unapologetic.

“Who’s fault is that?” he asked. “The problem with watching them was I started getting overconfident. I was starting to feel like the New York Jets when they were facing the Colts in that Super Bowl. I had to stop watching film.”

John Rafailedes enjoyed the win but was not looking forward to returning home.

“She is a fierce competitor,” he said. “I’m not sure how this is going to go. I’ll find out when I get home.”

Game 21;

Top defensive players—Nissley (M) 10 digs, Vodopich (P) 8 digs, Lawrence (P) 8 digs, Frease (P) 6 blocks, Evans (M) 4 blocks. JV—Perry won.
