The Jackson Polar Bears scored one run in each of the first three innings and held off the McKinley Bulldogs for a 4-1 Federal League win Thursday.
Jackson played error-free defense behind starter Kyle Chandler and reliever Mike Cooperider to move to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the league.
“We played solid defense behind both of them,” Jackson coach Bill Gamble said. “Our pitchers sort of carried us today.”
McKinley scored its lone run in the fifth, but a nice defensive play got Jackson out of the inning.
“They had scored and had the bases loaded with one out, but McKinley hit into a line-drive double play that got us out of the inning,” Gamble said. “We were pretty fortunate there.”
Nick Meronoff had two hits and scored three runs for the Bears, while Jake Miller added two hits for Jackson.
